This church tower can be seen all throughout portsmouth and is considered the most iconic symbol for Portsmouth, Nh. Portsmouth is one of the oldest colonized cities, settled in 1630 and named Portsmouth in 1645. The church itself was built in 1657 and the clock and bell were added in 1749. The church itself isn’t so much a symbol, but the tower because it sits against the main square in Portsmouth, and overlooks all of the city happenings. In front of this church, sits a large public patio area where there have been hundreds of protests, bands preforming, parades passing, and outside markets. You can see fireworks bursting alongside this tower in the summer, and you can see it towering over the city from a distance.
